Carnelian Properties & Meaning

The name carnelian comes from the Latin word “Carneus,” which means flesh, in reference to the colour of the stone. The ancient Greeks often carried this stone whenever they engaged in competitive sports. This was Napoleon Bonaparte’s favorite crystal. The French emperor was given a Carnelian as a gift during his campaign in Egypt. He had it installed on his portable watch & carried it into battle. Many Muslim legends also claim that Mohammed, the prophet, had a carnelian ring that was known to bring him good luck. Roman soldiers of high rank often had Carnelian gemstones engraved on their war helmets because they believed it would give them courage, confidence, and protection on the battlefield.
