Sodalite Properties & Meaning
This beautiful blue crystal, was first discovered in Greenland during the 19th century by Professor Thomas Thomson named Sodalite after its high sodium content. Thomson was a chemist hired by the British Empire to identify the rock after it was found inside a captured ship arriving from Greenland to Denmark during the Napoleonic wars. However, In 1891, after the Princess of Wales fell in love with the beauty of Sodalite from Ontario, Canada. She chose this stone to decorate the interior of her palace in England, which was known as the Marlborough House. Ever since, many deposits of Sodalite have been found in Canada, which is why it is sometimes called the “Canadian Blue Stone.”
