Carnelian Properties & Meaning

The name Carnelian comes from the Latin word “Carneus”, which means flesh, in reference to the color of the stone. During the times of the Ancient Roman Empire, Roman soldiers of high rank often had Carnelian gemstones engraved on their battle helmets. They believed this crystal could bring them courage, confidence and protection on the battlefield. The ancient Greeks also believed the stone could enhance their physical performance and often carried a Carnelian while engaging in competitive sports. Carnelian is believed to enhance mental focus, alertness, vitality and energize the body.
